A laryngectomy is a procedure in which all or a portion of the larynx (voice box) is surgically removed usually due to head and neck cancer. Patients have a variety of options for communication including an electrolarynx, a voice prosthesis, esophageal speech or communication apps. Patients may also present with swallowing deficits (dysphagia) as a result of a laryngectomy.
Speech therapy can help with the transition to altered communication, change tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP) prosthesis and provide assistance with dysphagia symptoms. Click our number above if you or someone you know would benefit from this service!
